Full moon ski last month. The next full moon is upon us!

Love letters from our long termed returning guests also remind us of why we're here.

Lulu and her group spent 6 days last week at the Meadow Chalet and have rebooked again for next year.
She writes:

"As always, we had a fantastic time with multi-generation laughter, music and grand over eating. We even had a wedding proposal out on the trail this year! ahh-memories. Thank you for maintaining the cabin so beautifully. Same time next year-Mon-Sunday."

WINTER IS BACK!!!!!

We've received 2+ feet in the first 2 days of this storm cycle and more is on the way! Conditions are EXCELLENT and we're trying to keep up the grooming with all of the new snow that's been accumulating. Although we've been xc skiing and snowshoeing on a great base since Thanksgiving, it's sometimes gotten really thin. Some of the best conditions so far this winter have been in the Trillium Lake Basin and it's been attracting lots of folks including dogsledders....

Typically we get most of our snow in the later half of the winter and this year seems to follow that pattern. By March and April we tend to have the most snow, conditions are great and most folks start to lose interest as spring erupts at their homes.

There's still some weekend opportunities in our cabins as well as a great midweek winter special,

Who stays at Summit Meadow Cabins?

The majority of our winter guests, many w/friends or extended families and especially those that rent Chalets on weekends, come back year after year.

The second weekend in December, 3 large cabins were enjoyed by a group who have celebrated Nicole's birthday, on the same weekend for the last 15 years. Initially they were a group with little ones, just 20-30 of their closest friends and family. It's been great to see the kids grow.

Upon leaving on Wednesday, Mary whose family enjoyed a midweek stay left the following note.

"It was thoroughly delightful...from the lovely fresh flowers, to
immaculate house, to a great wood burning stove that "drew" faultlessly.. to the
welcome call to be sure we'd gotten here. It was all so well-done.

Full moon nights, an "animal Christmas tree" in the meadow. Who could ask
for anything more?

Thanks so much, We'll be back. "

Are we really complaining because its been sunny for the past week?

Not when the view from inside our Meadow Chalet before sunset is this wonderful!

The other bonus has been skiing after dark with the half moon shining in the clear night sky. Pretty hard to beat!

In spite of the "springlike" conditions; sunny days, cold nights, snow that is firm in the shade, softer in the sun, and the low snow pack, folks had a great time xc skiing and snowshoeing around Trillium Lake this weekend.

The full moon is this weekend, so as long as it's not totally overcast, skiing and snowshoeing after dark will be quite incredible!

Of course we wish we had more snow on the ground, at least enough to set a nice track with the snocat. But sooner or later we'll be sick of the snow coming day after day, so it's been great getting our early season vitamin D fix.

The start of a family tradition??

Thanksgiving weekend brought the Wegners to Summit Meadow Cabins for their first family visit. It's hard to tell who is having the most fun.

Polly made my day by thanking us for providing this kind of an opportunity for folks to enjoy the snow while staying in the comfort of our cozy cabins. She wasn't surprised to learn that many of our guests have established family traditions, visiting for 20 years or more on the same date every year.

Conditions were great this weekend considering it was November and our first real "dump" of the winter.

We still have Dec weekends available (including Christmas in our smaller cabins). Check out the AVAILABILITY page on the Blog for the most current openings.

What's coming next?????

We had a couple of inches on the ground and then between last Thursday afternoon and Sat morning we received over 2 feet of new snow as you can see from the photo of our Chimney Rock Aframe to the right.

Over the weekend there was a great single track used by both cross country skiers and snowshoers from the Trillium SnoPark and around the lake. The route was well covered. The access from the Still Creek Snopark via Hemlock trail still needs more snow for xc skiers.

We need more snow cover before any machine snow trail grooming can begin. The new 2 plus feet of snow is already consolidating and will pack down to considerably less. The forecast is calling for rain (and LOTS of it ) at this elevation midweek, then more snow. Even rain will help consolidate the snow and contribute to the base,as long as it doesn't all melt away.

So....we'll see what comes next.

We've got snow.....at least today

The recent storm has dumped enough snow on the ground for a 6 inch+ accumulation and it looks like it might be the beginning of a good base.

Here's what it looked like earlier this am on our trusty snocat which is ready and waiting to start snow trail grooming once we have enough.

The forecast calls for more snow at this elevation later this week. So there's a good chance the snow gates will be closed and Thanksgiving weekend could be the start of the cross country ski and snowshoe season at Summit Meadow. Stay tuned.....

Is there enough snow yet?

Currently there is an inch or two on the ground and the road surfaces have melted out. We'll see what next week brings. As soon as there is a snow resource, the Forest Service will be locking the snow gates at the top of Trillium Lake Road as well as the road into Still Creek Campground.

The forecasters are predicting another cold and wet winter and the snow levels are dropping. We are that transition period of snow, rain, sun, cold, more snow, rain and typically the snow wins out. Usually we have about a 50% chance of being snowed in by Thanksgiving (sometimes literally on Thanksgiving day) .

WINTER AVAILABILITY

Our three larger cabins are booked on weekends from Dec 2 through mid-March.

The week between Christmas and New Years is also booked in all cabins except for a two night stay in the Chimney Rock Aframe arriving Mon, Dec 26 and departing Wednesday, Dec 28.

Thinking of a special Christmas celebration? Currently, the 3 smaller cabins are available for a two night or more stay including Christmas day.

We do have weekend openings in one or both of the 2 smaller cabins (Falls Creek Aframe and Mineral Creek) the first three weekends in December as well as a few weekends in January and February.

Select March weekends are available in the Mineral Cr Cabin as well as the Falls Creek and Chimney Rock Aframes.

March and early April are generally a GREAT time to visit as the days are longer, the weather milder, the crowds die down and typically we have PLENTY of snow.
